Soccer whizz Dylan Wentz from Ballyvolane who has secured himself a valuable soccer scholarship in the US.

Soccer ace nets US scholarship

Like the Irish World Cup team of 1994, a young Cork soccer player is headed for the USA, but he is intending to stay considerably longer.

Ballyvolane-based Dylan Wentz has managed to secure a highly-prestigious soccer scholarship which will see him fly stateside later this summer.

Dylan, who is a member of the FAI/ETB Soccer Academy in Carrigaline, will be joining Hawkeye College, located in Waterloo, Iowa, where he will play for the RedTail soccer team.

Whilst there, Dylan will have the opportunity to combine his university studies with playing high level football and training full-time for the next four years.

The scholarship was gained through the assistance of PASS4Soccer Scholarships, a programme which helps a large amount of students in Europe to find soccer scholarships in the USA.

Dylan took part in a USA Coach Showcase held by PASS4Soccer to help further their exposure to universities in the USA, where he was spotted by a coach who had flown to the UK to attend the event.

The students, who are placed in American universities and colleges by the programme, have earned over $40,000,000 worth of education through introductions to scholarship programmes.

Many have then gone on to play in the MLS (Major League Soccer) as well for other professional teams in Cyprus, Iceland and Italy.
