Fun on the street!

Excitement is building as Shandon Street Festival returns this weekend!

The annual free family fun day takes place on and around Church Street in the shadow of the Shandon Bells, a historic part of the city.

It all kicks off with an official opening and ribbon cutting at 1pm on Saturday before the festivities get underway.

This year the festival is packed with family friendly activities and events such as street entertainment, magic shows, cake decorating, balloon modellers, a sand art workshop, a puppet show and a children’s drumming workshop. Wonderworld Productions will also provide entertainment in the form of interactive theatre.

Soccer mad under 10s are encouraged to take part in the five-a-side soccer tournament which will take place in St Anne’s Park along with a host of other activities like hula hoops and skipping ropes for all age groups.

Music lovers will be in their element with the sounds of the Butter Exchange Band, Muddy Lee and the Shandon Shawlies, and The Laughing Shamrocks. Dance along to the Céilí All Stars band starting at 3pm or try your hand at Mexican dancing.

Foodies can savour delicious treats and snacks at a wide range of food stalls with everything from donuts, crepes and ice-cream to candy floss and cakes.

Amateur photographers are invited to get involved by taking photographs and posting them to the Shandon Street Festival 2019 Facebook page, Twitter @shandonstfest #shandon and Instagram @shandonstreetfest.

Linda O’Halloran, Festival Organiser said: “This is our 13th year organizing the festival, and each year it has gone from strength to strength. This year’s festival is going to be the best yet, and we have been working hard over the last few months to get many family friendly activities and events organised. We would like to welcome everyone to Shandon on Saturday 22 June from 1-6pm, to help us celebrate this great community that we have and to take part in all the activities.”
