White blooms equal elegance

Margaret Griffin

As you are well aware, here at Griffins we love creating amazing colourful combinations for all our customers. Most customers and our design team spend time together choosing the right combination to suit the house, patio and of course the environment.

Again this year, we have seen an increase popularity in white bloom combinations. These combinations will bring peace and tranquillity to your front door. Shades of cream, ivory, silver, and pure snow blossoms layer seamlessly to form a peaceful landscape that glows in the evening. And don't we all need a tranquil space in our homes?

Here are some of the best varieties of white blossoms for you this season:

Nemesia Wisley Vanilla

For a vanilla fragrance and an abundance of white blooms, this will be a winner in your container. The flowers are white with a very pale pink flush, particularly on the upper petals, and a yellow eye.

White Cosmos

Perfect to add height to your pot, this award winning Cosmos is so easy to grow and will give you many months of bright white large blooms. It performs best in full sun. I usually add three or five of the plants in the centre or back of the pot to give beautiful height.

Mandevella White

If you have a large or taller pot, then you may need more height. The Mandevella White will bring heat and the style of the tropics to your pot. The main selling point of this plant is its large trumpet flowers and beautiful fragrance. This will thrive on the sunniest part of your patio or conservatory. In pots, it performs best in multipurpose compost with added grit to create an open, well-drained compost. Over the winter, bring it into your warm conservatory.

White roses

These are very popular for containers for a wedding party and are often used at the front door of the bride’s home. Standard white roses will give elegance to your pot and are so easy to grow in a pot as they do not need much watering. One of my top tips is to make sure they are planted in a deep pot. Roses have long roots and therefor need less watering. Feed well with a slow release feed.
