Liam Miller memorial run welcomes all

A memorial run for the late footballer Liam Miller will take place in Cork later this month.

Presented by Cork City FC in association with Marymount, the 2019 Liam Miller Memorial 5K Run invites both serious and casual runners, walkers and wheelchair rollers of any age to come along and take part.

Entry to the run is €10 for adults, €5 for under 16s and €20 for a family entry which includes two adults and two under 16s.

Prizes will be €100 for 1st place, €50 for 2nd place and €25 for 3rd place, for both male and female categories.

For the under 16s, 1st place male and female will receive a €25 voucher each. On their website, Cork City FC stressed the importance of physical activity and exercise, writing: “Evidence shows that undertaking physical activity can help to prevent disease, maintain a healthy weight, and promote mental health and well-being.”

Ballincollig native Miller passed away in 2018 at the age of 36 having been previously diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Miller enjoyed a successful footballing career playing with a number of teams including Celtic FC, Sunderland, Manchester United and Cork City FC.

The 2019 Liam Miller Memorial 5K Run will take place at 10:30am on 29 July and will start and finish at the Bishopstown Training Ground at Curaheen. Contestants can register at CCFC.ie/5k or sign up on the day. Registration starts at 9 am on the day.
