The East Cork Biodiversity Network Programme (ECBNP) will launch its ‘Coastal Habitats and Walkways' project today.

Coastal protection project launching in East Cork

Today marks the official launch of a new coastal habitat protection project in East Cork

The ‘Coastal Habitats and Walkways’ project, by the East Cork Biodiversity Network Programme (ECBNP), aims to halt biodiversity loss, maintain and assist coastal habitats to thrive and to provide important education around biodiversity and climate change.

The launch will be marked by the unveiling of a new John Deer X950R tractor and trailer which the ECBNP will put to great use in its efforts to protect Cork’s coast.

Founded by Proinsias Ó Tuama, the mission of the ECBNP is to create a forum and collaboration space to share best practice, provide education and knowledge transfer, and to build relationships to foster enhanced biodiversity and environmental sustainability in the East Cork Area.

The ECBNP is the biodiversity wing of Clean Coasts Ballynamona, a group of close to 250 tireless volunteers dedicated to keeping their part of the rebel county’s coast rubbish free.

Recently the ECBNP was invited to be a keynote speaker at the Foundation for Environmental Education’s ‘Green Schools Nation Operators Meeting’, a global initiative with over 75 countries in attendance where it delivered a presentation on its work and the work of its mother organisation, Clean Coasts Ballynamona.
