Tommy Feehan's ‘Dawn Flower' will be part of the upcoming exhibition.

Sampling the morning soup

People will be making a dash to Fitzgerald's Park as it's about to get a splash of more colour.

The Lord Mayor's Pavillion, at the entrance to the park, will be re-opening soon to the public with the exhibition 'Avoiding the Morning Soup'.

The Sample Studios' exhibition is an exploration of the park as a space that offers respite from the city streets.

Cork-based Sample-Studio artists Tommy Feehan and Jennifer Redmond, and Wicklow-based artist Louisa Mahony present their work that considers the park as a stage in which everyday happenings and interactions can occur at a remove from their urban context.

Tommy Feehan’s paintings take us on a journey to previously unoccupied territory, a place of ambiguity and possibility.

Jennifer Redmond works with performance and with assemblage/play, in the hope that the work might be a catalyst to creative ways of thinking about world making, both for herself and for the audience.

Carl Dixon, chairperson of Sample Studios said: “This exhibition is the first in an exciting new joint venture with Cork City Council. It will provide a welcome return to the city centre for us, one that complements our studios in Churchfield and our on-going visual arts programme, Tactic at St Luke’s Crypt.”

‘Avoiding the Morning Soup’ will run from 29 August-14 September on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 12-5pm.

Sample Studios will be presenting talks and events throughout those weeks.
