The Kino's back with a bang

Cork’s Kino will reopen in style next month with two international acts doing the honours.

The former arthouse cinema will open its doors once again as part of Sounds from a Safe Harbour 2019, an annual festival of music, dance, art and conversation.

Promoters Ed O’Leary and Joe Kelly of The Good Room, recently announced that they would be taking over the Kino as a live music venue, theatre space, bar and café.

The new Kino era will begin on Friday 13 September when Odyssey, featuring Todd Dahlhoff, Leslie Feist and Shahzad Ismaily, take to the iconic stage to enchant the audience with their improvised translation of Homer’s 'Odyssey'.

The following evening audiences will be treated to the driving pan-African rhythms and sounds of Swedish artist sir Was, who will be trialling his new material for an upcoming new album to be released later this year.

Sounds from a Safe Harbour, curated by Bryce and Aaron Dessner of The National, director Mary Hickson, Cillian Murphy and Enda Walsh, will run from 10-15 September and will feature a host of free and ticketed events across the city.

Tickets for Odyssey and sir Was will go on sale 10am this Monday from soundsfromasafeharbour.com or uticket.ie.
