Oh snap! Amateur photographers on Leeside will have the chance to show off their skills next month when Culture Night rolls around.

Developing from a new partnership between Gurranabraher Credit Union and Sample-Studios in Churchfield, photography competition PhotoGo will see local snappers go head to head as they attempt to frame their local area in a creative new way.

The competition will take place around the Hollyhill, Churchfield, Gurranabraher, Shanakiel and Sundays Well areas on Sunday 8 September.

Photographs can only be taken during the sessions allocated at registration and entries need to be digital, taken on either a mobile phone or digital camera. The choice of subject is open to the contestants, however it must in some way reflect the locality in which it was taken.

Contestants will be competing for two awards on the day, one chosen by a panel of judges, and the other by a people’s vote. Entries will be shown online from 11 September and voting will finish on 19 September, the day before Cork Culture Night 2019.

Registration for PhotoGo takes place in Sample-Studios, Churchfield, on Sunday 8 September. The competition will take place over two sessions, from 11am-1pm, and from 3-5pm.

Registration will take place at 10am for the earlier session, and at 2pm for the later session, at which time contestants will be given a map to show the boundary of the PhotoGo event. Just one digital photograph may be entered per person accompanied by the location of the snap marked on the provided map.

All children under the age of 18 years and vulnerable adults will need to be accompanied by a responsible adult.

On Culture Night, the photos will be exhibited in Gurranabraher Credit Union on Bakers Road where the opening reception will take place and the prize-winners will be announced.

A duplicate exhibition will be held at Sample-Studios where competitors will be invited to collect a personal copy of their photo from the walls.
