Cork Senior Hurling Captain Séamus Harnedy at the launch of I'm a Celeb this week.

I’m a Corkonian, get me out of here

A special fundraising event will take place on Friday 4 October at Rochestown Park Hotel in aid of the Down Syndrome Centre Cork.

I’m a Celeb takes inspiration from the massively popular TV show ‘I’m a Celebrity Get Me out of Here’. The experience will challenge local celebrities, friends and family of the centre to become ‘jungle campmates’ for one night of outrageous entertainment and fun.

It’s the first event of its kind in Cork. The red team on the night has received an early boost with the announcement that they will be captained by Cork senior hurling captain Séamus Harnedy.

Those taking part in the quirky fundraiser, will be put to the test by taking part in a variety of stomach churning challenges. Participants will take part in everything from bush tucker trials to tension filled physical challenges in a bid to be crowned the King or Queen of the jungle.

The 24 brave contestants will be divided into two teams and pitted against each other in a bid to collect ‘stars’ for their teams.

Funds raised on the evening will support the continued good work of The Down Syndrome Centre Cork. The centre was founded in 2017 by parents of children with Down Syndrome.

The services they provide are viewed as essential by those who avail of them and include diagnosis support, early intervention services and building a network of lasting friendships. The Down Syndrome Centre Cork currently has 60 children availing of services all of which are subsidised by the centre itself. It is a registered charity but does not receive any Government funding.

The fundraiser takes place on Friday 4 October in Rochestown Park Hotel from 7.15pm to 11.30pm. Tickets for I’m a Celeb are €25 and can be purchased via celeb.eventbrite.ie, from the Down Syndrome Centre on Forge Hill (9am-12pm, Monday to Friday) or by contacting Down Syndrome Centre Cork at 087-9959776 or fundraising@dsccork.ie.

If you cannot make the event on 4 October, donations are graciously accepted via the Eventbrite page. For more information visit fundraisingevents.ie/im_a_celeb.
