Shine a light on Cork’s volunteers

Do you know of someone who deserves their moment in the spotlight? Now could be the time!

The Cork Volunteer Awards are on the hunt for nominations, with the award ceremony set to recognise the selfless contributions made by volunteers in Cork.

The awards, which are being held in October, aim to celebrate thousands of remarkable people across the county who selflessly give their time and talent to benefit their local communities. The event, sponsored by Cork Independent and C103, will feature ten award categories to recognise the contribution of Cork’s unsung heroes.

Communities across Cork city and county are being asked to nominate volunteers who donate their time to charities, festivals, sporting associations and community groups.

Manager at Cork Volunteer Centre, Julie Connelly said: “The awards are about celebrating and acknowledging the unsung heroes of Cork city and county who don't often get a chance to have their selflessness recognised publicly. The awards cannot happen without nominations, so we are asking all the community and voluntary organisations across the city and county to nominate their volunteers. It's a simple form to compete on our website. There are ten categories and the winner of the overall C103 volunteer of the year category will be announced on the night.”

The awards will take place on 11 October, at The Kingsley Hotel. The event will include a three course meal, the events ceremony, and a DJ set.

Ms Connelly continued: “The awards couldn't happen without our very generous sponsors and media partners. There are still some awards that do not have sponsorship so it would be great to source some additional funding to make the event even more special for the volunteers. We are also seeking spot prizes for the night!”

Nominations can be made via the Cork Volunteer website at volunteercork.ie/cork-volunteer-awards. However, time is ticking with the closing date for nominations on Tuesday 10 September so get your nomination in to give your worthy nomination a chance to have their good work recognised.
