Cusack set for minor hurling role

Donal Óg Cusack is set to make a sensational return to the Cork intercounty set-up as manager of the minor hurlers in 2020. The news comes as the hurling management teams recommended for ratification by the Executive of the Cork County Board were announced.
Cusack is a somewhat of a surprise successor to John Considine, who stepped away as minor boss earlier this summer, as it had been largely speculated that Jimmy Barry Murphy was set for the role. However Cusack will be handed a one year term and will be joined by selectors and former Cork teammates, Seán Óg Ó hAilpín and Tom Kenny on the sideline with further selectors to be chosen at a later date.
Meanwhile it was also announced that Kieran Kingston is set to return as the senior boss, two years after stepping down as the senior manager. He will be handed a three year term and will be joined by previous senior selectors Ger Cunningham of St Finbarrs and Cloyne's Diarmuid O'Sullivan with a full management team to be announced later.
Elsewhere Sarsfields' Pat Ryan has been picked as the Under 20 hurling manager and will be handed a two-year term with his management team of Donal O’Mahony (Bishopstown), Brendan Coleman (Youghal), Fergal Condon (Aghada) and Wayne Sherlock (Blackrock).
The recommendations follow extensive consultation over several weeks by the executive with all the appointments subject to ratification by the County Board on Tuesday night.
Commenting on the announcement, County Chairperson Tracey Kennedy said: “I am absolutely delighted with the outcome of the appointments process, and honoured to be putting these names before County Board on Tuesday night. As I indicated at the outset, we did not want to rush into any decisions, and the length of the process is indicative both of the extent of our consultation and the number of excellent people who were willing to talk to us about Cork hurling.
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all of those who have agreed to serve as managers, coaches and selectors, and I truly believe that we now have a structure in place which will ensure that we can always secure the best people to lead Cork teams, on a clear pathway for both coaches and players, from underage all the way through to senior.”
