‘Emily, Aphasia and Mister Mozart' will be launched this Saturday in Cork City Library.

Launch of inspirational Cork novel

Cork author Girish Patel will launch his new novel ‘Emily, Aphasia and Mister Mozart’ this Saturday at the City Library on Grand Parade.

The new novel reaches out to those that may have experienced a disability or been struck down by a disease or condition with the messagethat it’s never too late to reach for your dream.

Mr Patel said: “I’m thrilled to announce this special book launch at the City Library in Cork. The book was entirely written here in Cork and I am excited by the prospect of meeting the good people of the city in a wonderful setting within the City Library.”

Mr Patel took inspiration for the novel from people he had encountered as a teacher, who had their lives disrupted by a condition, disability or disease.

“As a result, so many people have simply, and understandably, given up on whatever dream they harboured before they were stricken. I understand fully that when one’s self-esteem and self-belief has taken a battering for whatever reason, it can be a Herculean task to pick oneself up, dust oneself off, and to move forward with confidence to achieve great things.” Continued Mr Patel: “I wanted to find a way to reassure anyone out there in this situation to grab the moment, to reach out for that dream and to make it happen.”

The story focuses on Emily, an Irish woman with a rare gift for music who suffers a condition quite suddenly and early on in her life.

Known as aphasia, the condition completely shatters her dream of becoming a star in the music world. Resigned to a life of mundane mediocrity and low achievement, a sequence of events brings her face to face with a university teacher called Mister Mozart, changing both their lives forever.

Mr Patel will be reading short extracts from the novel, and introducing the audience to the central characters, Emily and Mister Mozart. The event will also feature the broadcast of a dramatic book trailer, with professional actors and music scored specially for the launch.

Speaking about the message carried by the book, Mr Patel said: “I’ve met so many people that have given up on their dreams. It’s as if the world tells them that they’re over the hill, that they’re crazy to try to achieve anything new at their age. I say different. So Emily’s message is ‘believe, nothing is impossible. And when you’re feeling low, there are forces we may not understand out there that are working to come to our aid, when you least expect it. So never give up.”

'Emily, Aphasia and Mister Mozart' is available in paperback or Kindle from amazon.com. The book launch takes place on Saturday 5 October at 3.30pm in the City Library, Grand Parade.
