GROWing your mind

By Aislinn O'Connor

Autumn is a time of year when when some people can feel down. The days are getting shorter and the nights getting darker. For some, even the thought of getting out of bed can be a big struggle.

The general advice of ‘go out and get some excerise’ and ‘eating healthy can help’ are useful, but for some, these things just aren’t enough. However, there are many supports out there now to help people, including an organisation called GROW. The mutual support group can provide access to positive mental health and wellbeing help for anyone who may be experiencing any mental health or emotional difficulties.

Through GROW’s 12 step programme of mutual support, members are encouraged to take back control of their own life.

At the meetings, people can find acceptance support and friendship in a non-judgemental environment as well as finding tools to support themselves through everyday stresses.

GROW peer support groups are free to attend and are open to anyone over the age of 18 years of age with no referrals necessary. There are currently 15 weekly GROW support meetings throughout the county and city.

Details of dates, times and venues can be found on the GROW website, grow.ie.

You can more information about GROW on the website or phone the local GROW office on 021-4277520 (Monday to Friday 9am to 2pm) or ring 1890-474474.
