Staff and students of CIT will be updated on a weekly basis about its merging with IT Tralee.

Weekly MTU updates announced

Students and staff of CIT and IT Tralee are to be updated weekly on the process of merging the two colleges after it was recently announced that the merging has been postponed.

A new project team has been set up to respond to issues set out in a letter sent from the Department of Education to both colleges which stated that the establishment of the Munster Technological University (MTU) is to be suspended until several problems were addressed.

In an update sent to staff and students of both colleges this week, which was seen by the Cork Independent, said that the project team is working towards a designation date of 1 September 2020 and that this is subject to a final decision by the Minister for Education and Skills. The update from the project team stated: “It’s very much game on. Since the Minister’s letter was received on 30 September the MTU Project has been restructured. Five thematic areas have been identified responding to conditions set out in the letter. Working groups are now being established to respond to each of the thematic areas. The working groups are made up of staff from both CIT and ITT.”

In addition, the project team said it will continue to update staff and students every week by issuing a short newsletter on the most significant developments as they occur.
