Ain’t no Marquee high enough

Live at the Marquee returns in 2020 for a final summer of live performances before the curtain is brought down on the event on Leeside.

The first of the summer acts were announced this week with Diana Ross returning to the tent after previously performing there in 2005.

Former lead singer of the Supremes and Motown queen Ross will take to the stage on 25 June 2020 before jetting to England to play at the Glastonbury Festival. Ross is celebrated both for her work with the Supremes and for her solo career influencing stars such as Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, both Michael and Janet Jackson, and Madonna, with a career spanning 60 years.

The summer line-up will also feature a performance by iconic folk singer-songwriter Yusuf/Cat Stevens. The Grammy-nominated artist, renowned for such hits as ‘Wild World’ and ‘Father and Son’, w ill perform for the first time in Cork on 24 June.

Live at the Marquee will also see the return of a beloved staple of the Showgrounds shows, Christy Moore, who will perform on 27 June. Moore’s new album ‘Magic Nights’ will be released this Friday.

Also announced was the return of 2FM’s Jenny Greene and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, conducted by Gavin Murphy, performing on 26 June. Starting out as a one-off performance in Rankins Wood at Electric Picnic 2016, the collaboration has sold out festivals and venues across Ireland for the past three years. The RTÉ Concert Orchestra was voted the World’s Favourite Orchestra in 2015 by bachtrack.com. The hugely successful collaboration with Jenny Greene won the IMRO Outstanding Achievement Award in 2018.

Tickets for Diana Ross go on sale on Monday 25 November at 9am, for Cat Stevens on 26 November at 9am, for Christy Moore on 27 November at 9am, and for Jenny Greene and The RTÉ Concert Orchestra on 28 November at 10am. Tickets will be available for the respective dates on ticketmaster.ie.
