Going green for Christmas
There's a Christmas market with a difference taking place this week. The event will highlight local and eco-friendly arts and crafts and produce.
Green Party Councillor Lorna Bogue will play host at the event to local small and eco-friendly businesses from 5-8pm this Friday 13 December in St Peter’s Cork on North Main Street.
Cllr Bogue said: “This is a great opportunity for people of Cork city who may have been overwhelmed at going green to see the wide range of high quality products that are being produced locally, by their friends and neighbours, right here in Cork! The event will have a range of stalls, from art to baby clothes for anyone who wants to improve their carbon footprint and also wants to lend their support to local businesses.”
Cllr Bogue, who put out the call for artists and businesses in September, is funding the event herself with the aim of Friday's market acting as a model to present the idea to Cork City Council for next year.
“Something that I have been particularly concerned about in Cork city centre is the threat that our local businesses face with online retail and the unsustainable shopping centre model. We have incredibly creative local businesses, and I have found these businesses to be leading the way in providing attractive, eco friendly offerings. I just thought, why not give it a go instead of just talking about it? So the hand went into the back pocket!”
