1920 medal stolen

A medal of great sentimental and historic value has been stolen recently in the Fermoy area.

The medal dates back to 1920 and was given to a woman who was a member of Cumann na mBan.

The medal, which given to the victim’s grandmother in 1920, was taken from a car. Gardaí are urging anyone with information about the stolen medal to contact them.

It is still in the original presentation box, a garda spokesperson said. “This medal is of great sentimental value. It should be instantly recognisable to collectors and dealers and we would ask anyone who has an interest in this area to bear this in mind if a similar one is offered for sale.”
