The housing along Noonan Road is set to be upgraded this year.

Works to start on Noonan Road housing

A housing complex on the southside of Cork city is set to be upgraded in the next few months.

Funding was recently sanctioned and work is due to get underway in spring at the housing blocks at Noonan Road, located between Bandon Road and Gillabbey Street.

Independent Cllr Paudie Dineen described it as “fantastic news” for the residents and the area in general. He explained: “In recent years, these flat complexes have been falling into disrepair with various issues such as heat loss, roof leaks, old guttering, and dampness. The flats are worse for wear due to their age and the proposed retrofitting will see an end to all that.”

The retrofitting will also include the flat complexes at nearby Fort Street.

In addition to the retrofitting, Cllr Dineen has suggested that driveways should be installed at the front of the Noonan Road flat complexes so as to give a sense of ownership to the residents. “This will provide a much needed sense of ownership and prevent the areas from being unsightly which is something that needs to be addressed,” he said.
