Learn about mindfulness

We often hear how adopting a sunny outlook can make a difference in our lives. Now people in Cork will have an opportunity to learn more about the science behind this.

Judy Phelan is bringing her course on positive psychology and mindfulness to Bru Columbanus in Wilton, starting at the beginning of February. Judy explains that positive psychology is the scientific study of what goes right in life. “The glass is half full rather than half empty. Based on research, it identifies what makes us happy, helping us to develop optimistic thinking skills, positive emotions, and positive relationships,” she said.

“It encourages us to do more of the things we enjoy and have a talent for. This brings us in to flow activity - being totally at one with what we are doing. It also acknowledges the good that is in our lives already and encourages us to express gratitude for this on a daily basis.”

Mindfulness has exploded in popularity recently and Judy’s course will help participants to benefit from this practice.

“Mindfulness is choosing the present moment by deepening our attention. This is achieved by using any one of our five senses, which connect us back to what is happening right now,” she added.

“The benefits of this are increased self-awareness, self-trust and acceptance, increased resilience, better coping skills, better health and well-being, improved concentration and creativity.”

The six week course begins on 5 February from 7.30-9.30pm. The cost is €80. One to one coaching is also available. To book, contact Judy on 085-7142944.
