Progress made on East Cork road

Improvements on the long awaited Carrigtohill-Midleton road took a step forward this week.

Contracts were signed on Tuesday between Cork County Council and Sweco, an international firm of consulting engineers with a Cork office, which marks the start of the concept and feasibility phase of the scheme.

Sweco was appointed as technical advisors to progress the scheme through to design and associated environmental assessment. Chief Executive of Cork County Council Tim Lucey, said: “This marks significant progress in this scheme to improve the transport infrastructure on the N25 corridor between Carrigtohill and Midleton.

“The upgrade will bring considerable improvements in journey times accessibility and safety. The advancement of this scheme is essential to attracting industry to East Cork and opens up further opportunity beyond Carrigtwohill.”
