Climate change under spotlight

Energy experts will descend on the city this year for the International Energy Research Centre (IREC) annual conference.

Held at the Tyndall National Institute, the conference aims to accelerate climate change solutions by bringing together national and international energy experts and researchers this April.

Some of the experts at the event include featured speaker Dr Alejandro Salgado Montejo, who received his PhD in experimental psychology from the University of Oxford. He has extensive experience in the integration of knowledge across neuroscience, psychophysics, and social sciences to understand and predict human experience and decision-making.

Another expert will be John Mullins, Executive Chairman of solar power producer Amarenco, who will join speakers from Oxford Brookes University, the World Energy Council, Community Power, ICLEI Europe and NS Energy Watch Germany. Speakers will be addressing this year’s conference theme, A New Decade, A New Frontier: An Intensive Drive Towards Delivering 2030 Targets.

Professor Tony Day, Executive Director of the IERC said: “The IERC Conference 2020 will take place against a backdrop of key issues for the energy sector. IERC research is delivering breakthrough innovation to meet urgent climate change demands, and partnering with industry accelerates our successes and ensures that solutions are market-ready as soon as possible.

“Events that blend leading edge research with market-facing companies are vital in encouraging rapid solutions we can all use to fight climate change. We are looking forward to hearing insights from speakers from all over the world at this year’s conference.”

The ninth annual IERC conference will take place on 23 April with a networking dinner on 22 April.

All events will be hosted at the Maryborough House Hotel. For more information or to register, visit ierc.ie.
