Must-haves for magpies

Jewellery is such a personal thing and for me it says a lot about someone’s style in how they choose to wear it. Some people like to stack up delicate layers of gold or silver pieces for some understated style, while others choose one oversized signature piece to really make a statement.

I’m someone who feels completely out of sorts if I leave the house without jewellery and a spritz of perfume, while many of my friends wear little to no jewellery, and if they do wear it, they can’t wait to take it off when they get home.

Whatever your take on jewellery, it’s a really easy way to add a little bit of your own personality to your look and it’s something that can look amazing without breaking the bank. It’s all about individuality rather than just lashing on expensive diamonds which of course is also totally fine if that’s how you roll.

While I love buying pieces on the high street with H&M, Topshop and Parfois always being my go-to for budget friendly gems, I also like to find individual pieces in some of Cork's own purveyors of bling.

For super quirky pieces, I always like to pay a visit to Isobella Ru in Bauhaus which is an absolute haven for magpies like myself. I always find the best earrings and headbands here which I find are especially good if you want to add a bit of extra wow factor to a wedding guest dress or for a special occasion.

I’ve bought many a headband here to wear with vintage dresses, but they also look equally good when dressing up a cosy oversized knit and leather trousers outfit.

Equally, a statement earring can look amazing when worn with a fancy frock but sometimes all you need is a t-shirts, jeans and heels to show off the earrings to full effect.

One of my absolute weaknesses when it comes to jewellery is rings and sometimes I wish I had longer fingers just so I could fit more on.

Unfortunately my digits resemble overstuffed chipolatas but we all have our crosses to bear.

One of the places I’m always guaranteed to find statement rings is from Diamond Buyers Club which is an online jewellery boutique based in Cork and which specialise in simulated diamond rings.

These pieces are a must for anyone who likes sparkling diamonds but with an incredible pricepoint and all rings are set in sterling silver or stainless steel.

What I love about the stainless steel with simulated diamonds is that they have great durability, wont tarnish and look just like platinum. These pieces look just like real diamonds and are great for stacking so you can create as little or as much drama as you like.

I personally like to stack a mix of gold along with some stones for daytime but will go full on diamond bling if I’m going out. They also do a fabulous collection of tennis bracelets which always gives me old school Hollywood glamour vibes, earrings and neckpieces.

I also love popping into Samui to see the Maria Black collection of fine jewellery and I even added two more piercings to my ear in the Maria Black pop up piercing shop that took place there on Black Friday. They do really simple but beautiful pieces that look great with multiple piercings or even worn on their own.

Who knows, I might even add something else to my curated ear for my birthday this month!
