A group will look at closing off the amenity to traffic.

No traffic at Nash’s Boreen?

A small group is to be formed to look at closing off the Nash’s Boreen walk to traffic.

This was given the green light on Monday during a Cork City Council meeting by the Chief Executive, Ann Doherty.

It comes after Sinn Féin Cllr Kenneth Collins asked that she put together a working group to discuss the feasibility surrounding the closure of Nash’s Boreen to vehicular traffic.

He wanted this group should be made up of residents, landowners, gardaí, Cork City Council staff, local councillors and others.

The northside amenity walk from upper Fair Hill to Apple in Hollyhill has been a popular spot for dumping and anti-social behaviour over the years.

Ms Doherty told Cllr Collins that Cork City Council would set up a small cross directorate internal team under the stewardship of the Assistant Chief Executive.

She added: “This team would prepare a public consultation plan which can be actioned to achieve effective engagement with all key stakeholders and the public in order to better understand the issues and bring a proposal to council if considered appropriate with regard to the sustainable future of vehicular traffic using Nash’s Boreen and its environs.”
