Let there be light!

Lighting at the Chetwynd Viaduct is on track to be turned back on with plans in place for repairs to be carried out.

It comes after Independent Cllr Ben Dalton O’Sullivan proposed a motion at the latest Carrigaline Municipal District meeting calling on Cork County Council to arrange for the feature lighting at the viaduct to be turned back on.

Speaking at the meeting, he sought support from his council colleagues and asked the local area engineer to arrange for the lighting to be repaired and turned back on.

He highlighted the history associated with Chetwynd Viaduct near Waterfall: “The viaduct was built around 1849 and really is an iconic piece of Cork architecture. The great Mick Barry from Waterfall once threw a 16oz bowl over that viaduct and it would be great to show off the viaduct with the feature lighting that was there previously.”

He said that the motion was widely supported by other councillors, and in reply to the Independent councillor, the local area engineer said she had arranged for an electrician to visit the viaduct and arrange for the lighting to be repaired.

Speaking to the Cork Independent, Cllr Dalton O Sullivan said that he was “very happy” that his motion was adopted adding that it was a great outcome.
