The late Darragh Sheehan.

‘He will be greatly missed’

The village of Doneraile came to a standstill yesterday as locals said goodbye to Darragh Sheehan who died in Kerry over the weekend.

Tributes continued to pour in on social media for the late Darragh this week with his funeral taking place yesterday, Wednesday. Many businesses in the area closed early yesterday as a mark of respect also.

During his funeral mass, loved ones were told of how Darragh loved his dogs, football, golf and horse riding as well as how a gloom had descended on the parish since news broke of Darragh's death.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána told the Cork Independent that a criminal investigation is continuing into his death which occurred near the Gleneagle Hotel on Muckross Road in Killarney on 29 August.

Gardaí have described it as an “unexplained death” and have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

The spokesperson added: “A post-mortem has since been completed, the results of which will not be released for operational purposes. Gardaí in Killarney are continuing to appeal for anyone with information in relation to this matter to come forward.

“Gardaí are also appealing for any road users or pedestrians who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, who were travelling in the Muckross Road area between 11pm and 11.45pm to make this footage available to gardaí.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Killarney Garda Station on 064-6671160, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666111 or any garda station.

In a post on Facebook, Doneraile GAA said: “Darragh played at all levels in the club, juvenile and adult, with success at juvenile level. He was a great team player and always played the game with great pride and gave 100 per cent. He was a player who always wore the club jersey with pride. He will be greatly missed by all in Doneraile GAA. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h’anam.”

Dunaraill Blog, a Doneraile clubs, societies, businesses and groups page on Facebook, said: “A week is a long time and if we could stop time we would surely try and eliminate the last few days. Unfortunately time marches on and we can only move with it. As a community if we could take a percentage of the heartbreak that Darragh’s family are suffering right now and spread it evenly among us we would. We hope that the outpouring of love shown since Darragh’s tragic death will sustain you all in the sad hours, days and weeks ahead. Look down on your loved ones Darragh and wrap your arms around them.”
