Thousands of euro worth of suspected drugs and cash were seized by gardaí following an operation in Cork city this week.

As part of an ongoing operation targeting street level drug dealing in the city centre, gardaí from the City Centre Policing Unit executed a search warrant at a house in the Fair Hill area at around 9.30pm on Tuesday night.

Gardaí seized €9,400 of cocaine, some of which was split into small deals, and €250 of cannabis jellies. €2,500 in cash and a weighing scales were also seized.

All of the suspected drugs have been sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.

A man, aged in his 20s, was arrested at the scene and brought to Mayfield Garda Station where he was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. He was later released.

Elsewhere, over €10,000 of suspected drugs and cash were seized by gardaí at the weekend. At around 7.30pm on Saturday 12 September, gardaí from Gurranabraher Garda Station, assisted by the Armed Support Unit, executed a search warrant at a house in the Knocknaheeney area.

During the course of the search gardaí seized €8,500 of cocaine and €2,400 in cash. Gardaí also seized a small amount of cannabis herb, five bottles of testosterone, mixing agent and a weighing scales.

All of the suspected drugs have been sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.

No person was present at the house during the search but gardaí have confirmed that they are following a definite line of enquiry.
