A Cork business has created its own first-of-its-kind online platform so people can design their own ring themselves!

For the first time in Ireland, couples can now design their very own engagement ring online and have it created by an experienced team in Cork, led by goldsmith Tuula Harrington.

My Unique Ring by Tuula is a new platform that allows couples’ imagination and creativity sparkle to create the perfect ring for them. People can choose from numerous designs and ideas from Tuula’s own sketchbook with complete freedom to try out different bands, metals and gemstones to design their own special piece of jewellery.

The rings are designed in real-time through a three-stage process, which means that people can make any amount of changes to their designs or stone choices and the ring is created immediately for them on-screen. The price of each creation is displayed with rings available for every budget.

“I love the creative process that’s involved in crafting my jewellery and I wanted to provide an opportunity for couples to experience that creativity for themselves,” Tuula said. “Every one of my designs begins with an idea and a sketch, and the process is the same for My Unique Ring, which embraces new technology. People can choose from a variety of sketches of my most popular designs and customise to their own tastes in metal and stone options, then bringing their ring to life.

“There is so much freedom to try out different gemstones and settings, having fun creating ideas that they may never have thought they’d like. The process is completely non-committal, we just want people to have fun and explore their own ideas for themselves,” she added.

Once an engagement ring has been created, the price and full description is displayed on-screen. People can then decide to pay a deposit and order the ring, send the design to Tuula’s design team for a consultation or simply send it to themselves to show off to family and friends.

“We really want the experience to be simple and enjoyable; something that a couple can do together, having some fun, creating memories and designing their own ring that will last a lifetime,” Tuula said.

“Our customers are looking for something a little bit different; a piece that tells a story or means something special to them. We’ve always focused on the overall design of the piece, whether it’s a ring or neck piece. Jewellery is not just about the stone or the size of the diamond, it’s about how it all comes together to create a beautifully crafted piece that feels and fits just right.”

All of the rings are made in Tuula’s DesignWorks studio in Cork city and she encourages anyone who is getting their ring crafted to visit the studio to examine the stones for themselves before being set.

Once finished, rings can be collected from the studio or securely shipped, free of charge, to customers.

Tuula is one of Ireland’s leading and most influential goldsmiths with over 20 years’ experience. She began her training as a teenager in Italy under a German master goldsmith and then studied jewellery and metalwork in the UK. She set up her first workshop in Cork in 2004.
