Cork City FC and Neale Fenn part ways

Cork City FC are on the hunt for a new manager after parting ways with Neale Fenn. City, who are currently in automatic relegation territory at the bottom of the league table, have managed just two wins in the 2020 SSE Airtricity Premier Division. Last weekend’s results, a 2-1 loss to St Pat’s alongside Finn Harps securing a point in a 1-1 draw against Dundalk, means City are now two points below Harps in the table.

There are just five fixtures remaining in the League, including an away trip to second-place Bohemians on Friday evening with Dundalk travelling to Turner’s Cross next Tuesday. The club also confirmed that Joe Gamble has left the club with immediate effect.

Head of the Academy at Cork City FC and former player Colin Healy Will take charge of the team for their remaining fixtures this season.
43 year old Fenn joined City as manager in August 2019, taking the reins from interim manager John Cotter who stepped in following John Caulfield’s departure in July 2019. Fenn, who was a member of City’s 2005 title-winning side, had hoped to help City return to winning ways, following a dismal eighth-place finish in 2019.

Speaking today, chairman Declan Carey said: “On behalf of the board, I’d like to thank Neale for his service and commitment to the club over the last year. He has helped us bring about major structural changes which will benefit the club long term and for that, we are grateful. Sadly, this year has had a number of impactful events which have derailed a lot of our plans. We are now in a battle to stay in the division. There are 15 points to play for and we hope now that that everyone will band together for what will be a hugely important three-week period for the whole club.”

Neale Fenn said: “I’m disappointed to be leaving the club earlier than expected. I’d like to thank my backroom team and the club’s staff for all their help over the last year and also the fans who welcomed me back to the club last year with open arms. It’s been a very difficult season for all League of Ireland clubs and I wish Cork City FC all the best for the remainder of the season and will be keeping a very close eye on the last five games.”
