Finally time to think pink

Well, I can’t believe we are here in our second week of a new year. I, for one, feel like the last two weeks have seemed like a few months.

This whole lockdown situation has me extremely disorientated and if someone told me it was March, I would probably believe them.

With that in mind, I am doing my very best to try and get up and get dressed this lockdown and if I can’t handle it, I try and get somewhat dressed up maybe every second day. All this so the shock of getting up and going back to work is lessened and I can try and maintain some grip on reality.

While it’s hard to think of all things fashion related, looking at spring trend forecasts has been a good escapism and not surprisingly the new season trends are all about joyful dressing.

I find putting on a colourful outfit with my favourite print on a dull day in lockdown really does lift the spirits. Obviously, I know the merits of having a wardrobe full of good basic neutral tones that pull a wardrobe together but every now and again I have to go wild and throw in a bit of colour to the mix.

So I was overjoyed to learn that one of my favourite colours, pink or hot pink to be precise, is the colour that’s going to be everywhere for spring/summer 2021.

I know we have been having a fashion moment the last few years with the softer so called ‘millennial pink’ and that is still very much present but spring ‘21 has upped the ante a notch with that really bright and bizzy shade of hot pink.

The good news is that this shade actually suits and compliments lots of different colouring, so if you’re brave enough, give it a go and have no fear wearing the colour near to your face.

If not, think about wearing it as a skirt or trousers or just adding a pop with an accessory. It’s such an easy colour to add into your wardrobe as it works well with other colours such as yellow or orange to create a truly exciting colour burst combination. It also adds some pizazz to your neutrals like navy, beige or white just add some metallic footwear for a gorge outfit idea. Don’t even get me started on hot pink and leopard print which is just the most ideal pairing for me but if this seems too out there altogether then just remember it also works a dream with some low key denim.

I mean, the options are just endless and another combination I can’t wait to try out is hot pink with lashings of turquoise jewellery. This look will be particularly useful when I’m pretending to be lounging on a beach somewhere hot that isn’t Ireland.

I’m also a major fan of print and so I’m always interested to see what the most popular prints will be for every season. Following along the theme of joyful dressing there are two distinct prints that seem to be standing out and that’s rainbow bright stripes (which I am here for) and beachy prints with an emphasis on starfish. Again, I’m also here for it! Stripes are something I always have in my wardrobe and are something that can be easily worked into your day-to-day look. Even a rainbow stripe knitwear can brighten up your end of winter wardrobe. The more kitsch starfish print is something I haven’t seen before and I look forward to the summer and maybe investing in one or two pieces to jazz up some cropped, distressed denim.

Roll on the new season!
