A nice niche garden project

Calling all budding gardens, there are some new videos to get some sage advice from.

Called ‘Grow at Home with Niche’, it’s a series of online videos for those wishing to start a small growing project at home.

The ‘how to’ videos will be posted online on Niche YouTube channel to act as a weekly a step by step guide for beginner growers or seasoned gardeners.

Topics covered will include how to sow your seed, caring and transplanting seedlings, planting seedlings to final growing position, maintenance and harvest of produce.

Community Health Worker and Horticulturalist Sarah Carr said: “Growing food and flowers at home can be a rewarding and welcome antidote to the stressors of lockdown life. Fancy equipment and large garden space isn’t needed to start a small growing project in the home.

“I’m very excited to get people started on their growing journeys from seed to harvest! These online videos will be perfect for people with small gardens, limited space, or those who use container growing and I am hoping for lots of interaction and questions if you have a question please post it under the YouTube video, or message us on social media and I will answer as best I can,” she said.

The video tutorials will be posted weekly over the next several months. Cork City Council is supporting the project.

The Council’s Social Inclusion Specialist, Rebecca Loughry said: “The Niche Community Garden is an excellent example of collaboration between Cork City Council, the HSE and the local community.

“Cork City Council were delighted to be able to provide the site and the building in the NICHE Community Garden and with the core funding provided by Cork Kerry Community Healthcare, through the Community Work Department, the Niche Project are working hard to promote wellbeing throughout the community during these difficult times.”
