Families around the country are being challenged to get musical this St Patrick’s Day.

Sofa, so good

Grab the kids, a camera and whatever instruments you can get your hands on and hop on the sofa for a special nationwide Paddy’s Day musical performance.

Dabbledoo Music, an education organisation that teaches young children through music, is challenging families around the country to record themselves singing and performing two songs for St Patrick’s Day.

To take part in ‘The Sofa Session’, families are being challenged firstly to sing the well-known traditional Irish song ‘Trasna na dTonnta’, before taking up their instruments of choice to play along with Daddledoo’s own version of John Ryan’s Polka.

Participating families are then asked to send their videos to Daddledoo Music who will edit them together for a special group video of children around Ireland performing the pieces together. The finished video will then be released on St Patrick’s Day.

To make this activity available to everyone, Daddledoo has put all of the instructions on dabbledoomusic.com.

The Dublin-based organisation works with primary schools all over the country and currently teaches through music at 74 schools in Cork.

Since the start of the school closures, they have been providing a free online parents' course for Irish families to give them access to fun music-making resources at home. So far, over 12,000 families signed up to use these resources.
