Pharmacy in Douglas robbed at knifepoint

Staff at a pharmacy in Douglas were threatened during a robbery in the past week.

Shortly before 10pm on 6 March, gardaí received a report of a robbery that had just occurred where a man had entered a pharmacy in Douglas, threatened staff with what is believed to be a knife, and had stolen prescription tablets.

Gardaí from Douglas and the Armed Support Unit attended the scene, but a suspect was not located at the time. A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said: “Detective gardaí from Togher began investigating and gathered CCTV from the area. As a result, gardaí executed a search warrant at a house in Cork city where they arrested a man, in his 30s, and a woman, in her 20s.

“A quantity of tablets believed to have been stolen during the robbery were also recovered. The two people were brought to Togher and Bridewell Garda Stations where they were detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984,” added the spokesperson.

The man was charged and has since appeared before Cork City District Court while the woman has been released without charge and a file will be prepared for the DPP.
