These River Island sandals are great value.

Spring can catch us all out!

Now I did two things last week that you might consider crazy but I firstly wore a sandal and secondly ventured outdoors without a coat or jacket.

Completely reckless I know but it was so sunny and warm and when I checked the date on my phone it said April, so I just threw caution to the wind and went for it! The sandals seemed a particularly daring move but it was just so sunny I thought why not?

I had invested in a pair of black quilted River Island dad sandals which are a dupe of the Chanel originals but much more pocket friendly and they were just crying out to be worn. This may turn your stomach but I have also worn them with socks albeit glitter socks but I know the socks and sandals combo is not for everyone.

Anyway it was such a joy to wear them and they looked particularly good with painted red nails and my tie-dye tracksuit from Irish label To Dye For by Johanna.

I’m just realising now that this could be a completely Marmite outfit pairing a dad sandal with a very divisive print such as tie dye but oddly it works. I’ve grown fond of tie dye recently probably because at heart it is a very cheery summer print and we all need a bit of that in our lives.

If the thought of wearing joggers and a hoodie in this print at once fills you with dread, then chance the hoodie with some light coloured denim and the joggers with a plain t-shirt or sweatshirt. I guarantee it will brighten your day!

I’ve obviously gone full steam ahead and worn them both together but I popped an oversized denim jacket over it which toned it down somewhat. My tracksuit is a pastel rainbow dream but I’ve also spotted a beautiful blue and white tie dye number which is so eye catching but the two tones may make it easier to wear if you’d like to dip your toe in tie dye.

Not so successful was my venturing out without a coat or jacket. Well, realistically the time for a heavy coat is gone but really what was I thinking not even bringing a jacket?

Off I strolled with not a care in the world the other day. It was one of those deceptive days that looked sunny but was actually bitingly cold. By the time I arrived home, I couldn’t feel my hands and had to use some heat pads to warm them back up leading to about an hour of reduced feeling in my fingers and awful pins and needles. Needless to say I won’t be doing that again at least for another month anyway!

It’s always so hard to know what kind of jacket to wear in spring but for me I tend to have three different styles on repeat which are my denim jacket, an oversized leather jacket and my trusty trenchcoat.

I particularly like a more utility style like this one from Michelle Keegan’s collection at Littlewoods which I would wear unbelted and open with sleeves pushed up for a more casual feel. I’ve had a few people asking me recently about what to wear a trench with for casual looks as they don’t want to appear like Inspector Clouseau and I always say just keep it laid back.

Joggers with hoodies, jeans and striped t-shirts and leather joggers with knits are all looks that I love to pair with a trench and give that perfect mix of smart and casual and ensure you keep yourself nice and warm this spring.
