Energy solutions for credit union members

Making a house warmer from new windows to insulation to heating installations can be expensive but help is at hand from a credit union group specialising in just that.

Called EnergyUnion, it is helping individuals and groups to secure funding for projects that help make their homes more energy efficient.

EnergyUnion brings together a number of Cork-based credit unions and will give members access to two types of grants, domestic and community.

Under domestic grants, members can access the Better Energy Homes Scheme which can help you to upgrade your home, make it warmer and more energy efficient and cheaper to heat.

Members will also have access to the Better Energy Warmer Homes Scheme. This nationwide scheme delivers free energy efficiency improvements to the homes of people who are in receipt of certain welfare payments.

Meanwhile the Community Energy Grant is where credit union members can submit group applications to make use of increased grant funding options.

Grant access can be given for a variety of work under insulations, heating upgrades and more.

Insulation work includes the attic, cavity walls as well as internal and external walls. Heating upgrades include the installation of heating controls, solid fuel stoves, solar thermal panels and heat pumps.

Grants can also be given for new windows and doors as well as other works.

EnergyUnion includes Gurranabraher, Synergy (Fermoy), Ballincollig, St Michael’s, Crosshaven/Carrigaline, Bishopstown, Glanmire, Youghal and The Lough credit unions.
