Colm Hayes’ first solo single ‘Mosaic’ is finally here and it’s as beautiful as its name suggests.

Hayes back and Hayes beautiful

The long awaited and much anticipated debut solo single from Cork native Colm Hayes is now out and honestly it’s a thing of beauty.

Hayes’ dreamy and heartfelt ‘Mosaic’ explores the relationship between a father and his new-born daughter over a spacey, warm backdrop of guitar and soft beats.

The track looks at the natural evolution of caregiving that occurs through life with lyrics so delicate and sweet you’re afraid your ears might break them.

He’s joined on the track by Grace McMahon of The Art Crimes Band whose velvet vocals bring a new and very welcome texture to the tune.

Although this is Colm’s first official release, he will be a familiar face to many in the Irish music scene having enjoyed success with past ensembles Kudos and The Mandolas.

“It could be the beginning of a journey, or it could be the end,” says Hayes who invited many of his former bandmates and musical contemporaries to perform on the track with him.

Niall Dennehy (The Art Crimes Band, formerly Kudos), Michael Grace (BRIARS, formerly The Mandolas), Cian McCarthy (New York-based composer/conductor, formerly Kudos), Cárthach O’Núanáin (Noatak, formerly Kudos), and Tim O’Leary (The Art Crimes Band) all appear on the recording.

This tender and delicate duet marks the unique experience of becoming a father for the first time and seeing the effect that music itself can have on a baby too. It’s a dialogue between a father and a daughter after a period when the Dungarvan-based Hayes was not playing music as regularly as when he was a younger man.

‘Mosaic’ is now available across all platforms alongside a lyric video on YouTube and Facebook.
