The Casey dress is the perfect wear anywhere geometric print dress.

It's all about prints

When I think of spring style, I immediately think of a great print and an easy to wear, versatile dress.

It’s my go to outfit during these months and one, which after months of dressing in cosy casuals, I’m just dying to get that little bit dressier when it comes to my wardrobe.

Now more than ever with lockdown easing somewhat, I’m looking forward to wearing a dress and styling it up from casual to…not so casual.

There are some prints I always reach for in spring and you can always be sure to find lots of wear with florals, dots and some geometric patterns which work well with the more neutral pieces in the wardrobe.

Florals for spring might not be ground-breaking as they say but if you want a failsafe print you know you’ll always wear, then you can’t go wrong with this.

When it comes to choosing a print, I always make sure it’s something I know I’ll be able to add into my existing wardrobe so the tones are very important.

Bright colours and pastels are always a spring favourite and you can always tone a print down depending on how you wear it.

A denim jacket thrown over a busy print and worn with trainers instantly makes the look that little bit more casual, while you can easily add a trench coat or blazer and a block heel to make it more workwear appropriate.

I also find a polka dot or dot print can work really well for work wear especially in a more monochromatic colour pallette and when paired with some neutral accessories.

One of my favourite looks is a navy polka dot print dress which is incredibly versatile and I usually either pair it with red, white or gold heels but the possibilities with colour combinations is really endless.

If you’d like something a bit different, then try a geometric print and I’ve spotted a fab dress online in Silk Peaches with an interesting geometric pattern that features a tiered waistline which I’ve noticed seems to be popular this season. It’s the type of dress you could wear anywhere and would be a great piece to have in the wardrobe.

The beauty of a dress is how easy it is to wear, and you can just pop it on and you’re dressed with no need for too much styling. I often find people just wear their dresses one way and that’s it, but it can also be styled so many different ways to give you lots of different looks.

One of my favourite things to wear at the moment is a dress worn over jeans. This works particularly well with shirt dresses or any kind of midi dress with buttons down the front. You can leave a few more buttons undone than usual and show off those jeans plus it adds an extra layer when it’s chilly and you don’t want to wear tights.

I think this season it works particularly well with lighter or more distressed denim. Also look at different ways of wearing a wrap dress.

Of course layering a top under is an easy way to change up the look but also try wearing it as a loose kimono style jacket. Just tie the strings or ties to the back loosely and wear over a simple t-shirt and jeans - ensuring you get the most wear out of your wardrobe.
