Local school bags flags

There were ice cream cones galore earlier this month when staff and pupils at Scoil Mhuire Girls Primary School in Ballincollig hoisted two very special flags.

On hand to do the honours was Olympian and former student Aoife Cooke who helped raise the Active School Flag and the Health Promoting School Flag.

This was the second Active School Flag awarded to the school and the first Health Promoting School Flag.

A spokesperson for the school said: “It is a whole school effort to accomplish gaining the Active Flag and Health Promoting School Flag so it is always a proud moment to acknowledge it together as a whole school.”

In line with school traditions and some recent fine weather, the pupils were treated to a visit from the ice cream van after the ceremony.
