Christy Moore in action in Glasgow.

Moore, Moore, Moore

Next week a documentary on one of Ireland’s most loved musicians will premiere on RTÉ giving a great insight into how he builds up to his famous live performances.

On Wednesday 18 August at 9.30pm, the feature documentary film ‘Christy’s Life On the Road’ by award-winning production company Bang Bang Teo will be broadcast.

The film promises “a raw exploration and rare inside look at Irish music legend Christy Moore’s private backstage world, building up to his onstage performances”, according to the filmmakers.

In 2016, Bang Bang Teo spent six months on the road with Christy Moore, resulting in a pair of one hour films for RTÉ called ‘Christy Moore: Journey’.

‘Christy’s Life On the Road’ features extra footage from ‘Christy Moore: Journey’, which was previously unused, as well as footage that was shot intentionally for ‘Christy's Life on the Road’.

The 1 hour 23 minute ‘Christy's Life on the Road’ has never before been seen on television.

The film features Moore’s five favourite venues, including the Marquee in Cork, and what he refers to as his “headquarters” in Lisdoonvarna. There are also intimate interviews with his band and members of his road crew who have been with him for many years. The film is full of rare backstage footage and raw energy in the build-ups to Moore’s gigs. It will give viewers a new perspective on one of our most treasured performers.

‘Christy’s Life On the Road’ gives a special insight into Christy Moore’s protected backstage world, where he immerses himself in the music each time before going onstage. In the midst of a pandemic, when live performers are truly suffering, the screening of this film is particularly timely; it is real evidence of everything that is sorely missed by so many musicians and the rewards both they and their audiences experience from live performance.

It screens on Wednesday 18 August at 9.30pm on RTÉ One.
