Woden it be nice?
Now more than ever the trusty trainer is at the forefront of our wardrobes.
It’s easy to see why when comfort, style and sustainability are now the key things we consider when making a purchase.
Silk Peaches boutique owner Grace Keane knows the importance of this for her customer and so she has added the footwear label Woden to the store’s collection.
Woden is a Scandinavian sneaker brand and so you know that design, high quality natural materials and great value for money is what you’ll get with these trainers. Woden was established in 2013 by Carsten Holm, a shoemaker with a long history in the shoe industry who realised that the Scandinavian design tradition combined with the DNA of the trainer would make for the perfect pairing.
If sustainability is on your mind then look no further as Woden trainers are made from fish leather. Interestingly, the fish leather that is used in all Woden sneakers is a waste product from the Icelandic fishing and food industry.
That’s an industry in which only one per cent of the skin is actually used, and the rest is destroyed. The fish leather, which comes primarily from salmon skins, is both hard-wearing and sustainable. This is due to the cross-fibre structure of the fish leather which makes it up to ten times stronger than calf leather. The fish leather is treated and tanned in Iceland using gentle and eco-friendly methods. This tanning process produces zero per cent carbon emissions.
There’s something for everyone in this collection from a classic white tennis shoe style trainer that will quite literally go with everything from jeans to your midi dresses. A beautiful and uniquely coloured light blue pair with incredibly interesting style details that make these a worthy investment and a cool navy pair with a stacked cork heel that give you a little bit of height but with lots of comfort. The Woden trainers are available instore or online at Silk Peaches.
I’ve also been perusing the new Michelle Keegan autumn/winter collection at Littlewoods Ireland which is a great one stop shop for all your cosy, casual and chic new season basics.
One of my favourite pieces from the collection are a soft denim wide leg trouser which is the perfect compromise between jeans and joggers and looks great dressed down with knitwear but can also be dressed up with a floaty blouse and heeled boots. Another thing that very much appealed to me was the matching padded coat for you and your dog!
As a dog mom I could definitely picture myself and Blanche on our winter walks in our matching coats. There’s also a great collection of beautiful knit pieces including dresses, belted cardigans and balloon sleeve jumpers which alas, do not have a matching version for your dog!
