One bob bus fares on selected services

A promotional €1 bus fare is now available on selected Bus Éireann services in Cork city as part of a new app promoting cashless public transport.

The promotion was announced by the National Transport Authority (NTA) for customers using the new TFI (Transport for Ireland) Go mobile ticketing app.

Users of the app in Cork can avail of the €10 for ten fares offer on Bus Éireann city bus services in Cork red zone.

The app is an alternative option to the current Leap card, providing customers with the facility to load a number of prepaid journeys on their phone.

Once downloaded, users simply enter the origin and destination of their journey and can then purchase ten single journey tickets.

Once a ticket has been purchased, customers can tap the activate button before each journey and show the driver their ticket while boarding.

The app, which is available for free on Android and Apple devices, is primarily designed to benefit customers eager to reduce the amount of cash they carry while traveling on public transport.

The app can currently be used on selected services operated by Bus Éireann and will be rolled out on some TFI Local Link and other bus services across the TFI network in 2022.

CEO of the NTA Anne Graham said: “The promotional fare is a real incentive to use the new TFI Go App at just one euro per trip. Even the normal TFI Go single fare will be up to 30 per cent cheaper than the current cash fare and represents great value.”

Bus Eireann CEO Stephen Kent added: “We were delighted to pilot the technology successfully with the NTA last year. The convenience of paying from your mobile phone reduces the need to carry cash. It can also speed up boarding times, helping us to keep our passengers on the move and on time.”

The promotional offer can be purchased throughout October and November and can be used until the 30 November.

The TFI Go App will operate on the following routes in Cork city:

• 201 – 225 (Cork Red Zone)

• 226, 226X, 233, 235, 236, 237, 239, 240, 241, 242, 243, 245, 245X, 252, 257, 258, 259, 260, 261
