Woman assaulted in Fermoy town

A man in his 20s has been arrested in relation to an assault on woman in Fermoy this week.

The woman was assaulted while walking her dog in Fermoy at approximately 6.40pm at St Coleman's Park on 7 November.

She was assaulted by an unknown male who later fled the scene. Gardaí were called to the scene which was preserved for technical examination.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said: “The woman received a number of injuries which are not thought to be life-threatening at this time. It's believed the unknown male may have also received a number of injuries to his face and neck during the course of this incident.”

Gardaí confirmed they arrested a man in his 20s on Tuesday.

He was detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Fermoy Garda station. He was still being detained as of going to print on Wednesday.
