HSE thanks GAAGoing undercoverTime to pass the batonA life time love for northsideAhoy there!

GAA communities across Cork and Kerry receive a heartfelt thank you from the HSE for their support as the Covid-19 vaccine rollout continues.

The GAA in both counties pledge to support anyone who needs help with the registration process, and to make sure that all clubs in the region have details of the online and phone registration options.

Meanwhile, vaccinations get underway across both counties for people aged between 60 and 69 who have registered with the HSE.

Litter wardens go undercover to tackle the issue of dog poop on Leeside!

The news comes to light during a meeting of Cork City Council when Green Party Cllr Colette Finn asks what measure the council is taking to tackle the problem.

David Joyce, Director of Services Roads & Environment Operations Directorate, tells Cllr Finn that Cork City Council takes the issue of dog fouling very seriously and has established a Dog Fouling Committee to help tackle the anti-social behaviour.

Mr Joyce says: “In the coming weeks the Litter Warden Service will be carrying out undercover, out of hours enforcement activities to tackle the problem of dog fouling.”

Earlier in the year the Lord Mayor and the Chair of the Dog Fouling Committee jointly launched an enhanced Anti-Dog Fouling Awareness Campaign.

Councillors pay tribute to long serving councillor Henry Cremin as he attends his last Cork City Council meeting.

The Sinn Féin party member is stepping down after 12 years as a city councillor and three decades as a party public representative.

He is keen to stress that although he is stepping down, he is “going nowhere as a Sinn Féin member or as a community activist”.

Former Lord Mayor of Cork Cllr Joe Kavanagh wishes him many years of health and happiness in his retirement while praising him for the work he has done with Pieta House.

Eolan Ryng is co-opted to Mr Cremin’s seat representing Cork city's south west ward shortly after.

Former lord mayor of Cork Tim Falvey passes away peacefully at his home in Clogheen after a short illness.

A successful entrepreneur on the northside for over 50 hears, Mr Falvey served as a city councillor for more than two decades and was also a director at the Port of Cork for several years.

During his funeral mass, symbols of his life, loves and interests are brought to the altar with his son Richard saying a few words about each. A photo of his late wife Abina is also brought to the altar.

“He adored mom and she adored him. They loved singing, dancing and get-togethers both with family and friends. Love transcends all boundaries, even death, and we have no doubt that they are reunited in heaven,” says his son Richard.

Preparations get underway for Cork Harbour Festival 2021 celebrating Cork’s connection with the water, its river and harbour.

The festival will take place from 4-14 June and is seen as an incredible achievement, presenting 15 events online and 28 outdoor activities.

Everyone is encouraged to get outside and rediscover all the hugely enjoyable activities there are in and around the harbour, from kayaking trips to sailing lessons and heritage trails to creative experiences.

The flagship Ocean to City race goes virtual too, with spectators following the many participants across the world as they challenge themselves with the Ocean to City #fivemilesfromhome.
