Cannabis seizure in Bantry

A man was arrested after a major cannabis herb seizure took pace yesterday in West Cork.

Gardaí seized around €220,000 of cannabis following a number of searches in Bantry yesterday. The man in his 30s has since been released without charge.

The man was arrested and detained at Bantry Garda Station “following an interaction with gardaí on uniformed mobile patrol in the Bantry area at around 1pm”, according to a garda spokesperson.

He was arrested under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 after a quantity of suspected cannabis herb was located on this person.

Follow up searches in the Bantry area resulted in the discovery of further quantities of suspected cannabis herb.

In total, suspected cannabis herb with an estimated value of around €220,000 (pending analysis) was seized.

A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions and investigations are ongoing.
