Gardaí in county Cork are investigating an alleged assault in broad daylight on a teenage girl in Fermoy on Monday afternoon.

The 16 year old girl was left with minor injuries when she was attacked at approximately 1.20pm in the town of Fermoy.

Gardaí have confirmed that a man in his 30s has been arrested in relation to the incident and he remains detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Fermoy Garda Station.

Gardaí have also confirmed that investigations are ongoing and ask that anyone who may have witnessed the incident call Fermoy Garda Station on 025-82100.

The assault in Fermoy comes shortly after a seemingly random attack on a girl in her 20s on Evergreen Street in the city on Saturday 29 January..

The woman suffered a number of injuries and she was taken to Cork University Hospital for treatment
