Ski lovers return to the slopes

Thinking of hitting the slopes soon?

Over the past number of weeks, as various restrictions start to lift in ski resorts across Europe and the removal of the testing in advance of returning to Ireland, ski fans have been booking in their droves to make a break for it this winter season.

Award winning ski tour operator Topflight has reported a huge increase in bookings. The company said many skiers are keen to book, having been reluctant to do so while various travel restrictions were in place.

Michelle Anderson, Marketing Manager with Topflight said: “Our ski clients are determined to get to the slopes and now that it’s much easier, with the lifting of various protocols, there is nothing stopping them. At this stage, skiers are pining for the fresh, open-air environment that ski resorts offer. Our clients are now used to living with Covid, adapting to the changing rules, and nothing is going to stop them now. Also, the substantial easing of restrictions at home helps to give that extra confidence."

Ski conditions are reportedly fantastic across European resorts, making the lure of getting away even more irresistible. There is fresh snow expected this week. People are enjoying the cold temperatures, blue skies and sunshine making for the ideal ski setting.

With the past few years having kept so many of us grounded, Topflight is reporting a marked increase in first time skiers enquiring about getting away this season too.

She added: “People are looking to make up for lost time, to explore new places and experience new things. Ski holidays are just perfect for this time of year which, for a lot of people, is quite flat and uneventful. There is nothing that compares to a ski holiday and we find that the majority of first time skiers that book with us, will return to the slopes again. It’s addictive.”

With travel returning to the top of many peoples’ list of things to do this year, ski holidays are a fantastic place to start, so why not make ski your resolution this year?

Topflight operate an Austrian ski programme direct from Cork Airport. The 2022/23 season is also on sale for those planning ahead. Or if you still fancy a getaway this season, there is limited availability in March.
