Major drugs seizure in city

Gardaí have seized €21,000 worth of suspected cannabis and arrested one man following a search operation in Douglas on Wednesday evening.

The search of the house was conducted by gardaí attached to the Togher Divisional Drugs Unit. A man in his 20s was arrested at the scene and was taken to the Bridewell Garda Station where he is currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

The arrested man has since been charged and appeared before Cork District Court yesterday morning charged in relation to the seizure. Investigations are ongoing.

The drugs seizure forms part of Operation Tara, an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy which was launched by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris on 2 July 2021.

The focus of Operation Tara is to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks at all levels involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale and supply of controlled drugs.
