Music royalty to reign Leeside

One of the most influential songwriters working today, and now officially an honorary Corkonian, global music icon Donovan is set to light up Leeside this weekend.

Having only recently returned to the stage for the first time in over two years, the Scottish native has now set his sights on The Everyman this Sunday.

Donovan will be treating the audience to all of his hits including ‘Catch the Wind’, ‘Colours’, ‘Sunshine Superman’, ‘Mellow Yellow’, ‘Universal Soldier’, ‘Jennifer Juniper’ and ‘Hurdy Gurdy Man’. Now living near Mallow, Donovan and his wife Linda are both honorary Corkonians, a title bestowed upon them at the annual Cork Person of the Year awards on 4 March.

He said: “I especially chose Cork venues as the first for me to return to live concerts after the long closure of concert halls, to thank the people of Cork where Linda and I call home.”

According to his bio, Donovan was younger than The Beatles, Bob Dylan, and The Rolling Stones when he achieved his artistic vision of returning poetry to popular culture. By the age of 16 he had already notched four Top Twenty singles, EPs and two albums. He received the prestigious Ivor Novello Award for his very first song ‘Catch the Wind’ when he was just 18.

Donovan plays The Everyman this Sunday with support act Joolz Jones. The show starts at 8pm. Tickets start at €35.
