Don’t be seduced by that hefty discount

It can be completely overwhelming even for the most hard core shoppers and I personally try to avoid them unless I am well prepared or there is something that I’ve had my eye on for a while.

Even at that I would prefer to shop a sale online rather than battling through a crowd of sale shoppers. With so many deals and discounts on offer it can be easy to just buy what seems like a bargain but is it really the deal of the century if you don’t actually need it?

Don’t be seduced by that hefty discount. If the piece ends up just living in the Narnia of your wardrobe then it’s just a waste of money.

Here are a few tips that I follow when I’m looking to grab an actual sale steal.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, make that list and stick to that list.

It’s so easy to just potter around getting distracted and picking up things you don’t need. You could add to the list throughout the year as you find what items you are missing and then revisit it for each seasonal sale.

I like to reassess my wardrobe and see where the gaps are and what are the pieces that will need replacing soon or already.

As the sales are at the end of a season it’s always a good idea to look ahead to the following year to see what basics you might need.

You may have adored a pricey pair of shorts in a store all season and now you find them half price at the end of season sale.

Just treat yourself and pack them away till next year. I always like to set a budget too because all those cheaper items can soon add up to a lot. Who hasn’t filled a basket with goodies in Penneys only to remortgage your home at the till?

I also find the sale is a good time to look for great quality basics and the more usually pricier items like coats, but this is all dependent on the season.

It’s also a great time to have a look in the more expensive shops that you might not usually shop in but love the quality of the clothing there.

I mean there is nothing quite like saving up for something and then finding it reduced in the sale.

It’s the ultimate sale jackpot.

Also don’t go wild and buy something that doesn’t fit just because the price is right especially if it’s too small. If it’s too big you may be able to get it taken in/up but you would really want to make sure this is possible.

As well as shopping for basics I also like to consider any occasions I have coming up like weddings etc and if I don’t have anything in my existing wardrobe then now is a good time to have a look for something for that.

On the day of shopping make sure you are refreshed, fed and watered if hitting the shops.

If shopping online or instore I like to fill my basket or gather all the items and then go through everything and reassess what I actually have.

I go through each item and ask myself will I actually wear this, what else in my wardrobe will this go with, and would I have bought this when it was full price?

If the answer is no or it doesn’t really go with anything I have then back they go.

The savvy sale shopper is a ruthless sort.
