Rainy day looks made easy

Events truly are back with gusto, and I’ve gone from the odd 1 here and there to 2 in 1 week both of which I will be styling some looks for.

Needless to say, I have been super busy and I always forget how physically demanding doing a stock pull for a fashion show or shoot can be.

However, it is a great way to see what’s in the stores and which looks are proving to be the most popular.

I always find it so interesting to see which brands have chosen to focus on which trends and how they each interpret them for the new season. Something that is absolutely essential when doing a stock pull is the right outfit. Let me tell you if you are not comfortable, then you cannot focus on the job in hand.

Especially at this time of year when you need an outfit that will keep you warm but also cool because you will be boiling by the time you’re finished running around and also let’s not forget, it could be absolutely bucketing it down too which is another element to consider.

Rainy day outfits are just the hardest to keep chic and stylish but the key elements to it are a great coat, trusty boots and a handbag that won’t get ruined in the rain.

Coat wise for me there is really only 1 option that I consider and that is the trench which I’m nearly sick of talking about. It keeps me dry but isn’t too heavy. I spotted a fab one in River Island the other day that was a really nice sturdy fabric and it had lovely lapel detailing which made it look more expensive that it was.

Go for longer lengths if you want even more rain protection and in nylon fabrics that don’t soak up the rain. I also think vinyl coats are a great option in this weather as they keep you warm but are pretty much just wipe clean if they do get a bit wet.

If your coat doesn’t have a hood - I’m ashamed to say I own approximately zero coats with a hood, so I like to have a couple of hats in my wardrobe. A baseball hat is particularly good as it goes with lots of different styles. A black one works with most things or navy.

If I know the weather is going to be rubbish, I like to make sure I’m not wearing any super long trousers that are going to drag in puddles. Teens of the late '90’s/early '00’s know the pain of wearing massively long, baggy trousers that dragged along the ground and having to spend the whole day in college with wet legs. It was unpleasant to the max.

My go to now is cropped jeans or trousers worn with a boot underneath. It’s simple, stylish and practical. Soggy hems be gone!

Boots are key and my favourites are thick soled Chelsea boots which work really well with dresses or with leggings or a cowboy boot. I recently bought a silver pair and I have worn them almost daily plus they have been keeping my feet super dry.

Let’s not forget about the handbag and this is very much key when I’m out and about styling. I need to keep my hands free but also need to keep some items with me and I like to have a notebook to hand to take notes so anything cross body is amazing plus I can wear it under my coat.

I also never go anywhere without my umbrella, however I could also buy shares in an umbrella company because I lose so many.
