Dry January? Not for our skin

January has approximately 700 days in it, so it is I believe the perfect time to grab your opportunity to make some changes yet embrace simplicity. We can get back to basics and routine with skincare and good habits. Here are some additions you can make to get your skin and health spring ready and dodge the dull. Dry January? Not for our skin.

Nuxe

Its Super Serum [10] (€68) is a universal anti-aging concentrate. This luxurious serum represents the perfect fusion between Nuxe's 2 fields of expertise - anti-aging skincare and natural botanical oils. This serum features natural hyaluronic acid, obtained by botanical biotechnology, as its star ingredient. Hyaluronic acid is notorious for its re-plumping and revitalising effect since it is able to penetrate deep into the skin to minimise the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It is, therefore, an essential ingredient to include in an anti-aging routine, at any age.

Here, Nmux combines the tried-and-tested properties of natural hyaluronic acid with the moisturising as well as soothing properties of botanical oils. Thousands of golden micro-spheres, which are suspended in the serum, carry the benefits of these botanical oils to the skin with ease. Finally, native cells of edelweiss provide multiple anti-aging benefits.

Dermalogica

Hopefully the sun will shine this summer. Love the texture of Dermalogica’s Prisma Protect SPF30 (€75) as it goes well under foundation and gives a brightening effect too so is beautiful if worn alone. Equally, using SPF daily during winter is important to protect skin from damage, hyperpigmentation and dehydration so include it in your daily regimen all year round. Make SPF your new year's resolution.

Broad Spectrum SPF30 provides protection from UV damage, while a bio-ferment from Sage helps maintain an even skin tone. Advanced moisture magnets provide all-day hydration for visibly smooth skin.

Andrew Fitzsimons

The Restructuring Hair Mask visibly nourishes dry and damaged hair to appear stronger and healthier. Formulated with ceramides, this deeply conditioning hair mask helps protect the hair from future damage by leaving it super shiny, soft and smooth. There’s no need to put up with breakage, frizz, dry or damaged hair any longer.

My favourite way to use it is to comb it through my hair after I shampoo and then leave it in while I exfoliate, mask and generally pamper myself. It is great for all hair types and rinses out easily. For extra penetration you can pop a shower cap on to warm up.

Overall health

Overall health is important for our skin too so it would be remiss of me to do a January column without mentioning Supplements Made Simple. They are a core range of supplements by Cork doctor Doireann O’Leary. The supplements in the range include 4 key supplements that will give you and your family a scientifically proven and meaningful health benefit - vitamin D, folic acid, vitamin B12 and omega 3 fatty acids.

The B12 and vitamin D come also in an easily tolerated spray. Vitamin D plays an important role in maintaining a healthy immune system in adults and children. It also supports bone health, strong muscles and musculoskeletal system.

Omega 3 Fish Oils contribute to the regular functioning of the heart and brain. They have also been shown to have a positive impact on skin health. Folic acid is key for all women who may become pregnant whether trying to conceive or not. Vitamin B12 contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue. It is important for a functioning immune system and supports the functioning of the nervous system too.
